Nationally recognized as a leading authority in cultural resource management, Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin earned a PhD in archaeology from Arizona State University. Dr. Goodwin is the president, CEO, and director of research at R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., headquartered in New Orleans and with multiple offices across the country. One of the projects that the firm has undertaken is architectural survey, research and assessment of the historic Hodges Square neighborhood in New London, Connecticut.
This evaluation is designed to prepare a nomination for Hodges Square to the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. The New London County Courthouse and the New London Public Library are already listed in the National Register of Historic Places. If the entire Hodges Square neighborhood is included in the Register, some economic benefits may accrue to property owners, including tax credits for rehabilitation, as well as helping to make them eligible for federal funding following future hurricanes or other natural disasters.
This project is a component of a bigger, multi-phase effort designed to protect historic properties around the coast of Connecticut, which is being managed by the State Historic Preservation Office of Connecticut.
