As a widely consulted authority on archaeological and cultural resources, Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin focuses his more than 35 years of applied experience on a variety of preservation and infrastructure projects. The Orleans office of his firm, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., offers a full range of surveying, preservation, and conservation services and helps drive due diligence efforts to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. In 2014, Dr. Goodwin earned state recognition as “Professional Archaeologist of the Year” from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism during the Louisiana Culture Awards ceremony.
Sponsored by the governor’s office, the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development, and a range of statewide arts and culture organizations, the Louisiana Culture Awards recognize organizations and individuals whose work has helped preserve or sustain the rich and diverse heritage of Louisiana. The judging committee bestows the “Archaeologist of the Year” designation on a nominee who has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments that have highlighted the state’s archaeological heritage.
In presenting the award to R. Christopher Goodwin, the state acknowledged his company's successful efforts to increase public understanding of Louisiana’s material culture. Goodwin & Associates' recent efforts toward this goal included a thorough survey of 30 New Orleans-area parks, including Fontainebleau State Park, as well as the examination of almost a dozen previously unanalyzed artifact collections.
