Historical planning professional Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin holds a PhD in archaeology, and draws upon his knowledge in this area to facilitate preservation and resiliency efforts around the country. Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin's recent efforts have centered on the New England community following the impact of Hurricane Sandy.
In late 2015, following Hurricane Sandy's devastating effects, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced a group of programs designed to protect the state's coastline and historically significant sites from future storms and natural disasters. The initiative began with surveys throughout some of the region's older coastal areas, such as Fairfield, New Haven, New London, and Middlesex.
These surveys will help authorities identify sites of key historical importance so that they can effectively prioritize in the event of another disaster. Other ongoing projects include the development of mobile apps to help citizens participate in survey efforts, as well as additional inventories of cemeteries, shipwrecks, and other key coastal resources.
